Honda XL600

The Honda XL600R was a beast. But it was beautiful beast to ride. Add to that, you could ride this factory-built dual sport motorcycle off the showroom floor, through the streets and into the single track and into the majestic expanse of wide open Baja. The XL600 engine was an air cooled, single cylinder, four-valve, four-stroke with 589cc displacement, an 8.5:1 compression ratio and a 75 x 100 mm bore and stroke. Ingesting the air and fuel mixture was a 30mm Keihin carburetor. The reliable kick start motorcycle featured a CDI ignition system. The XL600 dirt bike boasted 45 horsepower (33 KW) at 6500 RPM at 36 lb-ft of torque at 5000 RPM. The XL600 features a 5-speed transmission that delivers the ample horsepower of the engine through its chain. The semi-double cradle frame included a 29 degree rake and 4.6-inch trail. For the motorcycle's suspension, the front end featured 39mm Showa hydraulic telescopic forks with 230mm of wheel travel. The rear suspension is a coveted Pro-link single shock that includes 200mm wheel travel. The front brake is a 240mm disc, whereas the rear brake was a less amiable 140mm drum. The factory-delivered front tire was a 3.00-21 on a 21-inch wheel, and the rear tire was a 5.10-17 knobby tire on a 17-inch wheel. The seat height on the standard factory setup was 33.9 inches. The dry weight of the XL600 is 297 pounds (135 kg). The motorcycle's fuel capacity is 3.17 gallons (12 Liters) with an average fuel consumption of 46.2 miles per gallon (MPG). For extreme thrills, the Honda XL600R top speed is 100 MPH in stock form and reached a standing quarter mile in 14 seconds at 90 MPH.
